The types:
I’m not sure how to start this blog post, so after many attempts to figure out how, I’m just going to jump right into the topic. The topic is….DA DA DAAAAA!! POKEMON TYPES!! All Pokémon and their moves have a type. There are 18 types in all: Water, Fire, Grass, Electric, Ground, Rock, Ice, Flying, Fighting, Poison, Fairy, Dark, Physic, Ghost, Normal, Dragon, Steel, and Bug. Each type has advantages and disadvantages. For example, lets take the basic three types; Fire, Water, Grass. Fire is weak to Water, Water is weak to Grass, and Grass is weak to Fire. Some Pokémon are known as duel types, which means instead of being one type, they are two types. As an example, Charmender is a single fire type, while Bulbasaur is a duel Grass/Poison type. In battle, it is a good strategy to choose a Pokémon that whose type has an advantage against your opponent’s type. Pokémon moves have types too. If the type of the move matches the Pokémon’s type, the power INCREASES! This is also called Same Type Attack Bonus (STAB). Also a Pokémon can lean moves that don’t match its type at all. Lets take Pikachu. Pikachu is an Electric type, but he can learn Iron Tail, which is a Steel type move.
Info on some of the types:
Some types are newer than others. Dark and Steel was introduced in Generation two because the type advantages/disadvantages were unbalanced. Fairy type, which is the newest type, was introduced in Generation 6. Ice types Pokémon are the rarest of the 18 types: there are just 33 Pokémon that are ice types. Water is the most common type: over 100 Pokémon are Water types or part Water. Now Dragon types are a pain. Not only are they one most elusive types, they are incredibly difficult to train. They required more EXP to level than other types and evolve at extremely high levels. Most types do little damage to Dragon types; the only types strong against Dragon are Ice, Fairy, and Dragon. Yes. Dragon is weak to itself. Even though difficult to catch and train, Dragon types are very much worth the struggle. Steel types are the best defensively, which is no surprised since most of them are made of steel. 10 types are not very effective against Steel and Poison has no effect. In X and Y, Steel lost its resistance to Ghost and Dark types, making those types do neutral damage. Ghost types Pokémon are an interesting type as well. They are the only type that has immunity to two other types, Normal and Fighting. Also, when a Pokémon is a duel Ghost/Dark type, they have no weaknesses. Poison types Pokémon are regarded as the least effective type there is. It is only affective on Grass and Fairy types. However, most Grass types are part Poison, which neutralizes Poison.
All the types are different in many ways. If would like to read more about the types or about the ones I didn’t talk about, here is where i got most of my information:
